Facebook Index shows social networking and digital gap in Germany
The Broadband Investment Index (BIIX) is the benchmark for the development of broadband in-ternet in Germany. Now the question comes up: which impact does broadband access have on social participation in new media? The answer is given by the Facebook Index (FBIX). The scientific indicator shows the digital gap between urban and rural areas and therefore between adequately and inadequately provided internet users in Germany. For the calculation of the index the number of Facebook users within a municipality is compared to the number of inhabitants.
BIIX – the benchmark for broadband rollout
Tops – Flops – Challenges! We will show you the best districts for broadband rollout in Germany! The experts in infrastructure economics and management at the Bauhaus University Weimar and the consultancy firm MICUS in Dusseldorf examined 525 cities and rural districts in Germany on their preconditions for broadband rollout. The Broadband Investment Index (BIIX) for Germany
The structural preconditions for the development of broadband networks differ significantly between the regions of Germany. While cities and agglomerations have a good base to be served with broadband infrastructure by private telecommunication providers, rural areas with low population density lack far behind. This is shown by the Broadband Investment Index (BIIX) for Germany, which has now been published by the recently founded association "Verein Breitband-Investitionsindex (BIIX) e.V."
BIIX e.V. is dedicated to foster the development of the broadband market and thus to stimulate the economy. BIIX e.V. encourages a constructive dialogue between owners of broadband infrastructure, service providers, investors and the public sector.
With its current design the Broadband Investment Index (BIIX) visualizes the preconditions for the transformation towards a sustainable and fast internet infrastructure. The higher the calculated index value is, the higher the expected revenue of broadband networks and the lower the expected cost for broadband development can be assumed.
